they say it's your birthday...

There is still a full week until my birthday but I am starting to celebrate today because Rick is overshadowing me with his oh-so-important 40th on 2/9.

And what better way to kick of my week of celebration than with my first gift! This small little package arrived yesterday and I racked my brain trying to remember what I had recently ordered from Etsy (I do have a new found addiction to the website). My lack of memory didn't stop me from tearing into the package.

I have to admit that I was taken first with the coffee sleeve thingy (I am sure there is a technical term) because basically it is true, coffee does make everything better! And I love the owl coin purse but the only problem there is that I have two small people who for some off reason think that two gifts means that one is for them.
Both items are from the shop So She Sews at etsy.com. And both items are recycled or as the card so sweetly says "eco plastic accessories."

I can't wait to use both.

Thanks Lexi for the birthday love!

Soccer

For a long time now we have been hoping to get Zachy in an activity all his own and what could be better than indoor soccer. He seems to like it but there are few things Zach doesn't like. He isn't so eager about actually kicking the ball but he loves to play goalie despite the fact that we don't play with a goalie.

Guilt

Rick is sick (and as previously mentioned I am not a good nurse). I came home from work to help out and the boys were bouncing off the walls (dang MLK day!). Thankfully we have a very fabulous, super swell friend who offered to take them to the movies so I could work and Rick could suffer in peace. I don't feel guilty about her being alone with the boys because I know they (along with her child) were perfect angels; I do have shitload of guilt over the fact that she had to sit through this:

I probably would have never taken the boys to see this; I would have waited until it came out on DVD so I could multitask while "watching" it with them.
Now I just have to think of the right way to repay this super, fabulous friend (and rid myself of this guilt).

stalking

I have a love/hate relationship with facebook. I have tried so many times to quit but I just get sucked back in. I hate people asking me to be friends with them when we haven't spoken in ages and upon becoming friends they don't send a note to ask how things are going. I often feel like a pawn in people's game to see how many friends they can get. And I hate having the stress of accepting someone's invitation to be a friend if it is someone I don't like or someone I once deleted. Of course I do love that I get to be a total voyeur and view photos of people and their kids and honestly, a little less of the kids and more of how they have decorated their house.
All that said, I was on the dreaded facebook the other night and I saw that a friend had posted a comment to Mommy to Bee. Curious as to what that was all about, I clicked, clicked again, and eventually found myself absorbed in this blog. There is some amusing stuff and a good waste of time. Mom, Paula, Sue - you guys probably wouldn't be so interested but Angie, Michelle, Jackie - I think you may enjoy it a bit.

Everyone here is well. Work is busy hence my lack of blog updates. Both boys are still alive (barely) and Rick is gouty and wishing he would have married a nurse instead of a English major with a Masters in Technical Writing (all I can recommend books and help him read directions or create bulleted lists).
There is a gem of a video of ZachFu in his first indoor soccer game  that I will post soon. I can't seem to log in to facebook (obviously it knows I just bad-mouthed it) to pirate the clip from Rick's page.
Both boys are gearing up for baseball (season starts March 6), which means the blog will be full of baseball photos very soon.

Needle Test

There is an old wives tale where you attach a needle to some thread, dangle the needle over your wrist, tap the needle three times on your wrist and then watch it spin. If it swings in a circular motion, you will have a girl and if it swings to and fro you will have a boy.Supposedly it will also tell you the number of kids you will have.

I don't recall who started it or why we did but we I remember a group of us would do this our freshman year when we lived in the basement at Guad Hall at Carroll College.I also have no recollection of what my needle prediction was but I distinctly remember that Katie would always get one girl no matter how many times we tried. (Side note for anyone that doesn't know: Kate is my dear, sweet, cute, super smart college roomie who is now the smartest orthopedic surgeon in Omaha.)

Katie is due on April 13th and I couldn't be more than happy for her and Mike. Of course it is a girl and there are rumors (started by me) that they are leaning towards the name Meghan. Katie and I have been through a lot together and I am more than excited to be part of her next exciting journey.

And for those of you that doubt me and this photo, I promise you she is pregnant.
