Quote of the Day

"I think most people are shocked at first that he stays at home and then that I would let him, that I would trust him with my kids," Meghan Flisakowski Lucas

Lucas Family in the News

Here we are again helping with the recent UT study on the changing gender roles in relation to childcare. I think eventually we will go national but for now we are keeping it local. I am not sure how long this will remain on their website but I think you should be able to search for Stay at Home Dads.

There is the transcript of the interview and there is video as well.

I know I am my mother because while they were filming Rick and the boys playing, it was driving me crazy that there was a red blanket crumpled up on a chair in the background. When they paused to readjust the camera angle, I ran in a took the blankets away.

No Idea What is Going on Here

Check out Zach in this photo from JT's friend Emily.

Baby Flisakowski Shower

To truly do justice to this story, I think I have to start at the beginning. Back in January I called Judes for our usual weekend chat on Saturday. She asked if I had gotten a baby shower invite for Reah and I replied no. I honestly didn't anticipate an invite since I usually can't jet off to Portland for a weekend alone. Sunday rolls in and we finally decide to check our mail at which time I realize I did get an invite. Judes and I both agreed it would be fun "if" we could go. Later that day and after maybe 20 phone calls Judes and I RSVP'd for the shower.

Despite my flight being delayed (who knew pilots couldn't be "violently ill" and fly) I had a fabulous visit albeit short to Portland. As always, Gavin and Reah were excellent hosts and I finally got to meet so many of the friends that I get to hear about. Friday night we went to Roux and Pix. Both were yummy. Saturday was the shower but Judes and I managed to squeeze in a visit to Powells. Mom left early Sunday morning and I bravely stepped out of the hotel alone and went to Stumptown.

Reah and Gavin got lots of good baby gear. I can't believe how much things have changed in just the two short years since Zach. I had to keep reminding myself that I didn't have to surpass the gross national debt buying baby stuff since I get to have a lifetime of buying my niece things.

Baby Girl Flisakowski is due in April and as soon as I have photos I will post.

Reah wasn't thrilled with me taking photos but I got as many as I could before my battery died. Unfortunately the one of me with the parents-to-be didn't turn out.

Nana Juju with Gavin and Reah (unfortunately the only photo and Juju's eyes are closed).

Gavin and Reah - Thanks again for a fabulous weekend.Mom - Thanks for hanging out with me. Hopefully next mom/daughter trip we will have more time.

Asleep

Oh how much fun the flip video is. Here is footage of the boys when they are sleeping, which we felt was hilarious. Bear with us as there is a moment where we realize we need some light.

Happy Birthday to the Oldest Guy at Our House

We helped Rick celebrate his final two years of his 30's with a surprise party on Saturday night. I definitely would not have been able to pull this off without the help of such fabulous friends. Thanks to all of you for coming and helping. Not only did we get to celebrate Rick getting old but we were reminded how lucky we are to have such great friends.

Wednesday Night Update

All is well in Texas. Here is a quick update on the Lucas Clan.

Rick - As unbelievable as it sounds, Rick is at t-ball draft right now. I guess 5/6 t-ball is so important that is requires the coaches to draft players. Last weekend Rick had to attend 4 hours of tryouts. It really is ridiculous but JT loves playing and thankfully Rick gets to coach. He will now doubt be busy with JT's team, his dad's softball team, the boys, and whatever freelance work comes his way. He is a few days away from 38 so all of this may be too much for him.

JT - The best update on JT is that he never stops talking. It is draining at times; okay it is draining most of the time. I asked JT if his jaw hurts from all the talking he does. Of course, with all the talking comes some fairly funny things. On Monday we went out for pizza, in the lot across the street a police car had pulled someone over. This is how the conversation went:

Me: "Ooh look guys, someone is in trouble." (And just to note - I was once scolded by a stranger that I was scaring my kids when I make statements like this about the police)
JT: "I think he has drugs."
Rick/Me: "What?"
JT: "Yeah, I bet he is getting in trouble for drugs."
Me: "What do you know about drugs?"
JT: "Oh, I know a lot about drugs."

Zach - There is one way to describe Zach - Train Obsessed. It is nonstop trains with Zach. We have finally given in and allowed Thomas in the house, which means Rick and I are constantly walking around the house humming "Down by the dockside" or "They're 2, they're 4..." Zach is cute but he is also tough to deal with. He has hit the twos and he likes to battle over everything. Somehow he is managing to find a way to get a word in edgewise and is adding lots of words to his repotoire. His latest is "delicious." He was looking at the remains of my birthday cake and let out a delicious. It took a few reptitions before we got it and of course Zach ended up with some cake.

Meg - It is hard to write an update on yourself. I don't feel like I have much to say that is blog worthy. I work, I come home, I hang with my people, I try to get some household chore done before I crash for the night. Mom and I are gearing up for our trip to Portland for Reah's and Gavin's babyshower. I am very excited for the weekend away with Judes and to see Gavin and Reah.

Well there you have it. A quick update on the household. More photos and video soon.
